Flare it up

I love to flare it up on a few shots at weddings. The key with wide angle is not use it too much and when you do go wide, to really ramp it up. I feel at one wedding, you have 2, maybe 3 chances to really use wide angle. If you go over that, it starts to feel gimmicky.
The shot on the left was at 14mm with the Nikon 14-24mm. The F stop really doesn’t matter when you’re that wide. The more you stop down, the more it will flare up (but that also shows the dust bunnies).
In the middle, I bumped up the vibrancy, darkened the top and increased the contrast a bit. If you increase the contrast too much, though, then the flare will disappear.
On the right hand side, I used Touchflow to retouch the faces and Texturematic to add on my favorite texture. Textures bring out more of the flare in the sky and down below.
So next time it sunny, point that 14mm at the sun and start shooting (you’ll want to manually expose though, as this much sun will mess up any auto exposure).
