Setting Up Photoshop for Easy Selected and Easy Alignment
-
People want to easily select images on a page and move them around. Photoshop has this ability, but it's turned off by default. Let's turn them on.
-
How to easily align boxes and how Photoshop works.
-
Smart guides are awesome. They tell you when you actually have stuff lined up!
-
Photoshop auto aligns to the images, not the boxes (or masks they are in)
Using the Canvas Creator
-
Canvas Creator is one of the most versatile modules of Album Builder. You can set your page sizes and margins to the exact standards that the album printing companies require. Make your own, or use one of our Album Company Presets. Any size album, and printing company. Additionally you can save marketing piece sizes, like post cards and business cards.
-
The "Sticky" is used to set your default canvas settings so you dont have to repeat your design preference.

Adding company presets will save you time when designing albums for print.
Using Ninja Layout
-
First time users will immediately see the power and benifits of using ninjla layout. Ninja layout is the most powerful tool in the Album Builder arsenal. It does away for the need to tirelessly search through templates.
-
Basics of super ninja
-
The "Quick One Up" button is used to create a single box for your image to be placed. Its the simplist of all the buttons. Here is how to use it.
-
The Grid Maker is the simplest of the multi box buttons. Its a really powerful tool that will help save you time in creating your albums
-
The column maker is extreamly powerful. It will save you so much time when creating spreads. Lets see how it works.
-
The row maker is extreamly powerful. It will save you so much time when creating spreads. It works like the column maker, expect the results are stacked vertically, instead of horizontally
-
Puzzle Maker will create a random group of images within your selection. You pick how many verticals and horizontals you want, and puzzle maker will do the rest. NOTE - Puzzle maker will only work with square selections. Regardless of how your selection is, puzzle maker creates the ouside boundaries to be a square. More on that at the end of this lesson
Filling your layout with images
-
Now that you have created your boxes, you need to fill them with images. Here is how you do it.
-
Numbering your masks will help keep track of what images you want, and where you want to put them. This is essential with filling from Bridge.
-
Fill Advanced gives you a lot of options when filling your grids. From applying presets and actions, to merging the selected masks. Explore the features of Fill Advanced.
-
Filling from Bridge is a very easy way to organize your layouts while you design. Adobe built a fantastic image viewer, we might as well use it.
Refining your layout
-
You can batch apply actions to your layout. Wether it be one image, or all your images.
-
How to Batch Apply Filters in Album Builder
-
Need to retouch an image in your spread? We've got you covered. Pop/Return images will allow you to pop out an image, edit it, and return it to the spread without adjusting the original image. Here is how.
-
Working with Original images is a little different then working with the temporary images. Here is how you do it.
-
Sometimes, your masks just are not spaced well enough. Maybe you want to add some space, or take it away. Here is how.
(NOTE respacing masks only works in Grid Maker)
Adjusting images after they have been placed
-
You can adjust the mask (cropping) of your opening very easily.
-
Sometimes, the images just dont fit like you want them to. Here is how you can select the image, without the mask, and move/resize the image.
-
A really cool feature inside of album builder is the ability to merge masks together to create mutliple masks, with only one image.
-
Just like "place" option in photoshop, Album Builder gives you the ability to add elements on to your spread. Background images, logos, other images, anything can be added to you spreads.
Adding style to your images
-
Sometimes, you need an easy way to change the color of the background inside of a spread.
-
An easy way to add sloppy borders.
NOTE: No longer supported in CS3

Tips and Tricks
-
One the keys to a successful workflow is breaking it down into manageable chunks. With Album Design, staring at a group of images makes it harder to design. The more images you stare at the more confusing it gets.
A technique that works really well for me is breaking down.
-
In this modern age, let's face it, we need to protect our images. One great way to do this, is to create blog collages, where are images are smaller and post them to our blogs and social media sites. This solves two problems. One is that it makes the images too small to steal. Additionally, it looks awesome.
